ATProto is cool as hell
This blog you're reading (whether you're reading on WhiteWind or my own site) is powered by something called the AT Protocol (atproto). Now, you... you don't need to care about that. But from a technical standpoint, that's awesome. Why? Well... Currently, the data you're viewing lives in the same place as my Bluesky posts and my WhiteWind entries.
ATProto basically allows you to have one identity & data store, while having multiple views of that data in a very cool, decentralized manner. Basically, my blog, WhiteWind, and Bluesky, as far as ATProto cares, all just provide a different 'view' (or AppView) of my data on my PDS (Personal Data Server). But all that data lives in one place. You can see this by looking through the data on the atproto-browser app someone very smart made.
You'll see there are records for app.bsky.*
as well as com.whtwnd.*
.
The analog for people not clued up on ATProto is like if my Threads, Instagram and Facebook profiles were just different views of the same data, all tied to one user account. i.e. one account on all three, just a different way of reading the data in their respective apps.
Anyhow, this post probably makes 0 sense, I just wanted to appreciate how damn cool ATProto is as a protocol.
Follow me on Bluesky if you like rambly techy things I guess?
